Conditions we treat

Arthritis

A joint that hurts every day limits more than movement. Persistent pain deserves a plan of its own.

What it is

Arthritis is inflammation of the joints, with pain, swelling, warmth and stiffness, especially on waking. It appears in conditions that differ widely from one another, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and gout.

It differs from osteoarthritis, which is wear of the cartilage and tends to hurt more with use across the day. The two can coexist in the same person, and both share chronic pain and functional limitation.

Signs it may be time to seek an assessment

How the assessment works

The consultation maps which joints hurt, when it worsens, how much morning stiffness there is, what has been tried, and how the pain limits your routine, from work to simple tasks at home.

The focus is managing chronic pain and quality of life, in coordination with the rheumatologist or orthopaedist treating the underlying disease. In selected cases cannabinoids may be considered within that plan, in line with regulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does this replace my rheumatologist?

No. Treatment of the underlying disease stays with the specialist. This follow-up is complementary and centred on managing pain and quality of life.

Is this for osteoarthritis too, not only arthritis?

Yes. Although they are distinct conditions, both involve chronic joint pain, and assessing that pain follows the same logic of mapping pattern, impact and what has been tried.
